- Changing Money
Please be extremely careful when choosing where to change
money. There are many stories of 'rip-offs'. To avoid any
misfortune, it is strongly recommended you attend only
licensed money changers. These establishments offer
competitive rates, will not rip you off and no commission
is charged.
You will often see billboards offering excellent rates
of exchange but these money changers are always
unlicensed, charge a commission and often try to trick
unsuspecting tourists with their expertise in distraction
when counting the money.
Highly recommended is:
- PT. Gunung Luas Wisata, Jl Raya Seminyak No. 26 Kuta
- across from Bintang Supermarket and about 50-100m
north.
- Matahari Department Store, Kuta Square.
- Drinking Water & Ice
As you may be aware, tap water in Bali is unsuitable for
drinking. For your convenience, a large bottle of water is
kept in the kitchen, a jug of cold water in the
refrigerator and ice cubes in the freezer.
It is suggested you use bottled water when cleaning
your teeth, and for making ice.
Also, due to the extreme heat and humidity in Bali, it
is imperative that you drink plenty of water to avoid
dehydration. Be aware if you are getting headaches or
feeling sick - this could be a sign that you are not
drinking enough water.
- Fire Hazard - Take Care
You are staying in a typical Balinese house with a grass
roof. It is essential, therefore, to ensure that extra
care is taken with candles and mosquito coils. Never leave
lit candles unattended, and please do not smoke in the
house...but feel free to enjoy the garden area if you must
light up.
- Food & Food Kitty
If you would like Iluh or Ayu to assist with any meals,
please discuss this with them. They will start up a 'Food
Kitty' for you, go shopping and keep the receipts. They
are great cooks!
Bintang Supermarket is a short walk away on Jl Raya
Seminyak. It has a comprehensive selection of fresh
vegetables, chicken, meat, dairy products and most of the
items you can buy at home. If you prefer to explore the
local culinary scene, you are only a short walk to many
fabulous restaurants which cater for all tastes and
budgets.
- Guest Book
We encourage you to take a minute or two of your time to
write in our Guest Book, which will become a part of Villa
Poppy's history. We've even provided some colored pencils
if your artistic flair takes over!
- Hair Dryer
For your convenience, a hairdryer is kept in the colored
basket in the main bathroom.
- Loss of Power & Water Supplies
Please remember that Bali is a developing island –
expect the unexpected. Occasionally, for no reason, the
power or water supplies may be cut. Fortunately, this is
usually only for a short time so please do not worry.
For your convenience, a torch is kept on a hook on the
left hand kitchen wall, should you have difficulty
negotiating around the house.
For guests in the upstairs bedroom, another torch is
kept in the wardrobe.
- Mosquitoes
Whilst we have a regular program of mosquito and insect
spraying, being in the tropics mosquitoes can be a
problem. It is advisable to close up your bedroom during
the late afternoon.
Mosquito coils and matches are kept in the kitchen
cupboard under the sink. It is also advisable to light
several coils early in the evening if mosquitoes are a
nuisance.
- Safe
For your convenience, there is a safe for your personal
use. We strongly advise you place all passports, money and
valuables in this safe. Whilst we pride ourselves on our
high standard of security, we will not accept any
responsibility for any lost or stolen items.
Please ensure you leave the safe door open before
departure and after removing your valuables.
- Staff - Hours & Responsibilities
Iluh & Ayu - House staff
Gede - Gardener
Made - Night Security
Generally, the staff work 8 hours/day.
Iluh & Ayu arrive about 9am to clean the house, and
take care of any washing and ironing that you may have
during your stay. They can also prepare some of your
meals, if you wish (See Food).
Gede takes care of the garden and helps with security.
Made is our Night Security man who starts work about
9pm and will be outside until early each morning.
As a courtesy, please be mindful of additional hours of
work if requesting the staff to do extra duties. On the
other hand, if you do not need any further assistance that
day, they will be grateful for the extra time with their
own families.
- Starter Pack - Food & Supplies
For your convenience, we have provided a starter park of
food essentials (milk, tea, coffee, bread, butter etc.) as
well as household items such as washing up liquid, soap
and toilet paper.
- Telephone
You are welcome to make any local calls free of charge. If
you wish to make international calls or send a facsimile,
Krakatoa Business Centre will be able to assist. It's
located on Jl Raya Seminyak - across the road and about
150-200m north. Please ask the staff for directions if you
are unsure.
- Tourist Registration
By law, all tourists to Bali are required to register with
the Police within 24 hours of arrival at their
hotel/accommodation. If you were staying at a tourist
hotel, this process would automatically occur at the
Reception Desk (without you being aware) as part of the
check-in procedures.
Therefore, in order for us to comply with this
Government Regulation, please do not be alarmed when Ilu
or Ayu ask for a photocopy of each guest's passport and
entry visa. If you prefer, you can copy your own
documentation at a nearby shop and return the copies to
Ilu or Ayu (ask for directions to the nearest shop which
has a photocopier).
- Transport
If you'd like to explore other parts of this beautiful
island, please contact Villa Poppy's Manager, Nyoman
Suasa, on (0361) 418 381 or mobile 0811 380699. Nyoman can
offer suggestions on the best places to see, and provide
you with a very competitive rate for the hire of a car and
driver for an hour or two, or for the whole day - without
any hassles. You will be picked up and dropped back to
Villa Poppy - without having to worry about a thing.
- Washing & Ironing
Please place all dirty clothes and towels in the baskets
provided in each bathroom. Iluh & Ayu will take care of
all your washing and ironing and return this to your
bedroom.
- Wear 'n Tear
The management respectfully requests that you please treat
